2nd Marking period 11-20

11: Club Flyer

By doing this project, I used many techniques I learned previously. For instance, I used glass text and plastic text. I did so using the tutorial on  http://www.tutorialboard.net/category/photoshop/text-effects/ . I also used a linear gradient background. Finally, I used the magnetic lasso to delete the white background that was behind the clip art images I added.

12: Texture
By doing this project I used a clipping mask. I was able to add a texture to a plain dress by doing so. I then changed the opacity of the texture so it looks like it was on the dress.

13: One thing poster
Original                                               Mimic

By doing this project, I mimicked a poster for healthy foods ad. I took a picture of french fries and created a clipping mask to add carrot sticks instead. Both the carrot sticks and logo had an outer glow added. The title had stroke added to make it more visible. The purpose of this project was to encourage people to eat healthy alternatives. The NYC FOOD BANK Logo was used solely for educational purpose. No Copy Right infringement was intended.

14a: Flag Displacement

Doing this project was fairly simple. I followed the tutorial on 14/http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-a-painted-effect-look-with-displacement-maps-in-photoshop-cs4/ . I changed the blending to hard lighting and changed the opacity of the brick wall. I made a displacement map of the brick wall and put it under the flag.

14b: Flag Displacement on Face

To do this project, I basically did everything I did in 14a. Instead of using bricks, I used a photo of myself. The flag appears to be painted on my face.

15: Motion Blur

In this project, I used the blur filter to make it appear as if the airplane is in quick motion. I also used the filter "wind" to make that effect more realistic looking. I followed the steps on http://www.tutorialboard.net/understanding-and-using-smart-filters-in-photoshop-for-dynamic-adjustments/ to complete it.
******************************************************
16: Quick Masking

In this project, I used the brush tool to highlight the area of the picture I wanted to color in. I then colored it purple and changed the opacity to make it seem like a tint.

******************************************************
17: Soft Skin Filtering Tone

In this project I used the tutorial on http://www.tutorialboard.net/add-a-soft-focus-effect-to-make-a-portrait-glow/ to put a glow on Angelina Jolie's face. The gaussian blur was the filter I added. I then used the brush tool to remove the filter from the eyes, mouth and nose.

QUIZ:

why smart filter? what is the difference between normal

and smart filter? Smart filter is a more efficient way of

applying a filter to a photo. A smart filter is applied to

the image you select as a smart object and applies the

filter to the whole object. A regular filter is applied to certain areas of an image you select.

what is quick Masking? why bother if I can just select with marquees or lasso tool? Quick masking is selecting a part of an image to edit. It does so by highlighting the part you select in the picture. Quick masking is quicker to use than marquees or lasso tools, which in the case of marquees there is a set shape and the lasso tool which you have to manually trace out the part you want to edit.

we added a couple of things to the original picture to get this "glow" - what were the they? and what and at what layer did you take away to create the final effect? To get the "glow" we duplicated the layer with the image and then converted to smart filters. We added "gaussian blur." We also changed the lighting to "screen" and added a layer mask. With the brush tool, we selected airbrush and removed the filter from the image (background layer.) This gave the impression that  the skin was glowing, when in reality we had the whole picture glow and removed the effect from several areas in the face.

18: Flash Drive
To complete this project I used Adobe Illustrator. I followed the tutorial on http://www.tutorialboard.net/create-realistic-pendriveas-adobe-illustrator/. Basically, I created shapes (rounded rectangle, ellipse, rectangles and I distorted two of the rectangles) and added different gradients to each. I assembled them to look like a flash drive.
************************************************************************
19: Different Shapes and Tools

To complete this project, I drew my initials using line tool and arc tool. I also drew various pictures including a heart, a snail (Gary) and stars using spiral tool, arc tool, line tool etc. I then distorted some of them using smudge tool, warp tool etc. I drew a heart using 2 ellipses and a triangle and then merged them together.
*********************************************************************************
19B: Minus Front and Divide Functions
During this project, I practiced using the minus front and divide functions. Using the minus front option enabled me to remove the top shape as well as the part of the shape underneath it that it covered. The divide function enables me to delete parts of the overlapping shape as well as the shape underneath by selecting them.

20: TEST

Day 1: During day 1, we created the outline of the phone. We created multiple gradients to create the appearance of the phone. We also created the screen.
Day 2: We created a gradient on the screen and applied a white rectangle to appear like a glare. We then created ellipses and grouped them to create the two buttons underneath the screen.
Day 3: We created the buttons underneath the screen. We made a circle in the center and created the pad. We also used the pathfinder tool to divide the shape to create the appearance of the keypad. We added the graphics (arrows, circles and middle button) to the phone.
Day 4: We created the phone number buttons the same way we created the buttons under the screen. We used the distort and transform option to multiply the button. We then added the letters and numbers to the buttons.
Day 5: We completed the project by added the ear speaker and the microphone.

                                       Extra Credit
To complete the extra credit assignment, I used various shapes in a few colors. I used warp, arc, arch and bulge effects to create the shapes of each element. I followed the tutorial on http://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-an-easy-living-room-scene-in-illustrator--vector-24995 and completed my living room scene.

                                    Reflection
For the second marking period, I deserve a 105. This is because I have completed all of my assignments correctly and on time. Additionally, I completed the extra credit assignment in advance and correctly. My favorite project was making the flash drive because it was challenging and the final project was three dimensional, unlike any project I've done before. My least favorite project was the one thing poster because it was tedious. During this marking period, we used adobe illustrator, in "like photoshop" mode. Previously, we used photoshop for manipulating photos and such. Illustrator is used primarily for creating digital art.
